Worthy Siegers Of The 1990’s

Steinenberg German Shepherds.

From the Author:

This article was started several years ago and completed just one year ago. The initial document was huge as it contained all the details of the 8 World Siegers of the 1990’s. The initial document created some excellent dialogue between myself and the few people who read it and was indeed a source of enjoyable controversy. As several new sources of information have now become available I believe it is only fair that the article be completely updated. This new information has, I believe, altered considerably some of the previous findings. Siegers that I felt were unworthy of the title may now find themselves in a somewhat different light. Of course, as before, the readers might disagree. If the article creates a source of competitive and constructive debate the time will have been well spent. The other Siegers of the 90’s will follow in successive weeks.

The greatest achievement that can be attained by a German Shepherd is that of World Sieger. It can only be awarded at the WUSV Sieger Show which is held annually in Germany. The title is awarded to the dog who achieves VA1 in a small group of dogs called the Select Group, usually confined to 8-10 dogs. I believe that a dog can only be assessed as a worthy Sieger some years after he has gained the title. This gives the required period of time to have elapsed to assess both his, and more importantly, his offspring’s ability to produce animals of equal if not superior quality.

The 1980’s produced 7 Siegers; 1980 Axel vom Hainsterbach,1981/82 Natan vom Pelztierfarm, 1983 Dingo vom Haus Gero, 1984/85 Uran vom Wildsteiger Land, 1986/87 Quando vom Arminius, 1988 Eiko vom Kirschental, 1989 so vom Bergmannshof. Axel vom Hainsterbach and Natan vom Pelztierfarm play little or no part in modern pedigrees and can be considered as unworthy of the Sieger Title. The excellent moving Dingo vom Haus Gero produced 4 VA progeny and is well represented today, and is, I believe, a very creditable Sieger Uran vom Wildsteiger Land and his half-brother Quando vom Arminius are now correctly regarded as major bloodlines in their own right, and their influence today is immense. Eiko vom Kirschental produced 3 VA progeny, but today is only represented through Yago vom Wildsteiger Land. Indeed in 1989 Eiko was downgraded to VA3, when it was widely believed his progeny group was not worthy of a Sieger. For me the most unworthy Sieger of the 1980’s has to be Iso vom Bergmannshof. The few progeny groups he did produce were of very poor quality and he plays no part in modern pedigrees.

1990/91 Fanto vom Hirschel

(Tell vom Grossen Sand-Ica vom Haus Reiterland)

Inbreeding:

5,5-5 Mutz von der Pelztierfarm.

5,4-3,5 Quanto von der Wienerau

5-5 Liane von der Wienerau

4-4 Canto von der Wienerau

5-5 Hein vom Konigsbruch

5-5 Yoga von der Wienerau

5-5 Condor vom Zollgrenzschutz-Haus

4-5 Hasso vom Grunen Laterne

Fanto vom Hirschel was considered by many to be very close to the ideal German Shepherd. Large, strong, very masculine with good pigmentation allied to very good body proportions, correct angulations and croup, firm and dry allied to excellent movement. Many of these qualities were inherited from his good producing mother Ica vom Haus Reiterland. His sire, VA2 Tell vom Grossen Sand was not regarded as a top producer and was criticised for lacking masculinity and pigmentation.

In Duisberg in 1987 Fanto achieved the JKL Sieger title from the well-respected SV-judge Albert Platz. His brother Frei was SG7. Fanto was VA7 in 1988 and VA2 in 1989 with a relatively small but well received progeny group mostly from the young classes. 1990, in Frankfurt, saw him elevated to the Sieger title with a very good progeny group including top placings with Watz vom Schornfelsen, Ninja von der Wienerau, Wendi von der Noriswand and Nilo and Norica vom Adeloga. Although 48 progeny were presented in the group Hermann Martin commented on ‘’a lack of uniformity and masculinity.1991, in Karlsruhe saw Fanto proclaimed Sieger for the second time. Hermann Martin commented ‘’that the criticisms of the previous year were not as noticeable’’. Some of the top placings included; GHKL Males V3 Watz vom Schornfelsen, V18 Peco vom Basilisk. JHKL Males SG4 Picolo von der Murrenhutte, SG10 Orlo vom Huhnegrab. JHKL Females SG4 Lusi vom Huhnegrab, JKL Males SG4 Xorro vom Fourniermuhlenbach.

Although retired from the Breed Ring in Dusseldorf in 1992, Fanto again produced a large Progeny Group of good overall quality. GHKL Males VA9 Watz vom Schornfelsen, V12 Peco vom Basilisk, V15 Xorro vom Fourniermuhlenbach, V23 Nilo vom Adeloga, V27 Oxal dell Ondra di Rial, V28 Picolo von der Murrenhutte, V50 Uran vom Bewie, V63 Eiko zu den Stocken, GHKL Females VA4 Lusi vom Huhnegrab, V35 Paolo vom Haus Dexel, JKL Males SG2 Manto di Casa Mary. Very few progeny made an impression in the younger classes and questions were being asked.

1993, in Dortmund, again saw Fanto lead an impressive Progeny Group of 49 animals. Hermann Martin commented on good size and construction, some weak heads, steep upper-arms and again a lack of uniformity. GHKL Males: VA5 Watz vom Schornfelsen, V7 Peco vom Basilisk and V9 Xorro vom Founiermuhlenbach. GHKL Females: VA4 Lusi vom Huhnegrab. Unfortunately very few of his progeny made any impression in the top groups of their classes. It was felt that whilst Fanto had produced some very good individual animals, the overall quality of his progeny to date had only been average.

1994, in Bremen, again placed in the top group with only 15 progeny presented. GHKL Males: V11 Xorro vom Fourniermuhlenbach. GHKL Females: V12 Kira vom Staring, V36 Fina vom Noricum, JHKL Females: SG23 Babsy v. Dan Alhedy’s Hoeve.

1995, in Hamburg, saw Fanto produce his last progeny group. Whillst Hermann Martin was highly complimentary of the

group none of the progeny achieved high placings. During his stud career Fanto never produced anything of his own outstanding quality, nor generally his own type. The sire-line today is virtually non-existent and whatever influence is to be seen through his daughters.

In the original article I suggested that because of a lack of quality producing male offspring Fanto vom Hirschel was not worthy of the Sieger title. Many who read the article disagreed with my conclusions. It was felt that Fanto had had a positve influence through his very good daughters and indeed his grand-daughters. To be fair I thought it was only right that I spent some further time and checked this out, although generally it is believed that a male is not a success at stud if he has not produced top-quality sons. Watz vom Schornfelsen was Fanto vom Hirschel’s highest graded son and the only male offspring to achieve the select grading. Watz’s influence can therefore be traced through his daughters. The Watz daughter Randi vom Lechtal (V11/1994) has proven to be a very good brood bitch.  When mated to select Karly vom Arminius she produced the very good male Yoker vom Lechtal (V3/2000). Yoker has produced the beautiful male dog Til vom Lechtal (V3/2000), Karat’s Olly (VA3/2000) and Kascha von der Ehrenfeste (V11/2001). Randi vom Lechtal when mated to the good producing Matty von der Wienerau produced Hilary vom Lechtal (VA10/1999). Til vom Lechtal has produced the outstanding female Nasa vom Hochmoor (VA7/2002) and Nenni aus Agrigento (SG2/2001).

Nufo von der Wienerau was a little shown but well constructed Fanto son. His mother was the select female Vaneska von der Wienerau. Again it can be said that the main influence from Nufo is through his good producing daughters. The Nufo daughter guggia von der Kahler Heide has produced Merlinda von der Kahler Heide (SG3/96), Wendriana von der Kahler Heide (VA11/98) and her sister Woldorona (VA7/98). Wendrina when mated to Sieger Ursus von Batu produced Ghandhi vom Arlett (VA7/2002) who already has proven to be a useful stud if the early progeny are any indication.

The influence from Nilo vom Adeloga (V23/1992) has been excellent but as before it is through his daughters. Nilo’s highest graded daughter is Biene Bauernfreund (VA6/1997) but his best results have come from his less illustrious daughters. Fanta von der Zenteiche when mated to Largo vom Breidenbacher Schloss produced Jasmin von der Zenteiche (VA10/1997). Lissie vom Kiemoor when mated to VAndo vom Moorbeck produced the good producing Hinnerk vom Kiemoor. Tina vom Lechtal when mated to Lasso vom Neuen Berg produced 3 times Select Enzo  vom Buchhorn. Fanta vom Zenteiche when mated to VA Nero vom Hirschel produced Max vom Zenteiche (SG2/1997). Wilma vom Michelstadter Rathaus when mated to Select Karly vom Arminius produced Select Jello vom Michelstader Rathaus.Rendi aus Agrigento when mated to Cash vom Wildsteiger Land produced the select female Xena aus Agrigento.

The Fanto son Picolo von der Murrenhutte (V28/1992) produced little male progeny of worth. His son Orpheus vom Schloss Querenberg (V60/1996) produced the select female Bibi aus der Schloss Stadt (VA/1999). Bibi when mated to Select Esko von Danischen produced the very beautiful male Opus von Danischen Hof (SG7/2000). Picolo also produced the Select female Vanta vom Haus Beck.

The Fanto son Ex vom Felsenwehr produced Unsa vom Hasenborn (VA6/98).

If Fanto vom Hirschel is regarded as somewhat of a disappointing sire through his male offspring can an argument be made to suggest that he is worthy of the Sieger title through his daughters. Let us look at what his daughters have produced and see if the original assessment will change. Fanto’s daughters will appear in bold text.

Adriana vom Blue-Iris when mated to Norfu vom Monchberg produced Zaskia vom Blue-Iris (VA12/96).

Lusi vom Huhnegrab (VA4/1993) when mated to 1992 Sieger Zamb von der Wienerau produced Alin vom Huhnegrab (V13/1994). Alin when mated to Largo vom Breidenbacher Schloss produced the outstanding female Magit vom Huhnegrab (VA8/1998).

Paolo von der Murrenhutte when mated to Nutz vom Monchberg produced the 4 times Select male Natz vom Steigerhof. Natz, whilst mainly regarded as a very good producer of females has also produced some good males; Zapp vom Monchberg (SG1/1995, V14/98), Zandro vom Winnloh (V30/2000) and Baru vom Haus Yu (V35/98). Natz’z best daughters are Toska vom Steigerhof (SG1/1995), Arkanes Va (SG1/1996), V Cina van de Herdersfarm, Heilei’s True Love (VA13/1999) and Siegerin 2000 Chipsi van de Herdersfarm.

Merri vom Hirschel when mated to Sieger Ulk von Arlett produced Vando vom Moorbeck (VA9/1999).

Gisha von der Noriswand when mated to Zito von der Noriswand produced Sasko von der Noriswand (V3/96). Sasko has in turn produced 3 Select progeny, Leif von der Noriswand, Xandra aus dem Haus Zygadto and Heilei’s Farina. Leif von der Noriswand’s original pedigree showed Hanno von der Wienerau as his sire. When DNA testing was introduced the pedigree was proven to be incorrect and Sasko von der Noriswand was identified as the correct sire. Many believe that this was the reason for Leif’s sale overseas.

Quale aus Wattenscheid when mated to Double Sieger Rikkor von Bad-Boll produced the 3 times Select male Mack von Aducht. To date Mack has been unimpressive as a sire.

Leska vom Berrekasten when mated to Select Wanko vom Lipischen Norden produced the 4 times select male Timo vom Berrekasten. The progeny results from Timo as yet have been unimpressive.

Elly vom Feuerball when mated to Select Max della Loggia dei Mercanti produced Wasko d’Ulmental (SG3/98). Wasko is the sire of the very impressive 2000 Siegerin Karma von Ochsentor.

Niola vom Trompeterssprung when mated to Immo von Batu produced Ussi vom Trompetersspung (VA10/96).

Ulme von der Bimsgrube when mated to Odin von Liebenauer Schloss produced Salome von El Tous (VA6/1999).

Summary: From the foregoing analysis I feel it is reasonable to assume that Fanto vom Hirschel was not a top producer of male offspring. However he did produce many top quality females who in turn have proven to be good producers in their own right. The quality of the progeny through his daughters and indeed his grandsons and granddaughters would lead to the conclusion that Fanto has earned his position in the history of our Breed. As I have already stated Fanto vom Hirschel never produced anything of his own obvious quality. Type, construction and pigment from him were variable. Size problems and a lack of masculinity were also very evident. SV Breed Wardens have stated that many of these problems can be attributed to his sire Tell vom Grossen Sand and have warned of further inbreeding on Fanto. However, that does not exactly answer the question I have posed. Was he a Worthy Sieger? Fanto during his stud career received a huge amount of use, and he would have got the top breeding females. Whilst I believe his position has improved slightly I still believe that my original verdict should stand.

Verdict: Not A worthy Sieger.

1992 Sieger & VA1

Zamb von der Wienerau

(Odin vom Tannenmeise-Ica von der Wienerau)

Inbreeding:

5-4 Sara vom Sonnenberg.

5-4 Quanto von der Wienerau.

4-3 Lasso di Val Sole.

Zamb von der Wienerau, like his sire Odin and grandsire Sieger Quando vom Arminius, has had a superb show career. JKL Sieger in 1988 and jumping straight into the Select group at VA7 in 1989, when his half-brother Iso vom Bergmannshof was the undeserving Sieger. Zamb improved to VA4 in 1990. In 1991, in Karlsruhe, he produced an outstanding progeny group and based on their quality and high placings SV President awarded him Vize-Sieger. JHKL Males: Vimo von der Wienerau, SG Tony von der Wienerau. JKKL Females; SG1 Vanta von der Wienerau, SG3 Tera von der Wienerau, SG6 Vara von der Wienerau. The future looked bright.

It came as no surprise to see Zamb elevated to the Sieger title in Dusseldorf in 1992. His progeny, both male and female, had had an outstanding season in the Breed rings. Purely on this basis he merited the title. GHKL Males; V25 Tony von der Wienerau, V34 Vimo von der Wienerau, V47 Derby vom Dironca, V55 Elton de la Petite Fleur, V74 Flax vom Haus Beck. GHKL Females; VA1 Vanta von der Wienerau, V5 Tera von der Wienerau, V20 Eugenie de la Petite Fleur, V25 Vima von der Wienerau. JHKL Males; SG2 Dax vom Haus Lach, SG3 Lux de Valdovin. JKL Males; SG5 Grando vom Haus Lach. JKL Females; SG1 Nathalie von der Wienerau. Hermann Martin was highly complimentary of the group, saying they were very true to father type, with very good construction, good heads, good proportions and generally very good movement.

1993 saw Zamb retired from the Breed ring but presenting a progeny group of 33 individuals. Again the quality was excellent. GHKL Males; VA8 Nero vom Hirschel, V10 Dax vom Haus Lach. GHKL Females; VA2 Nathalie von der Wienerau. JHKL Females; SG5 Alin vom Huhnegrab, SG17 Odessa von der Wolfsmatte.

1994, in Bremen, saw Zamb lead another large, quality progeny group (25), containing 4 Select progeny. GHKL Males; VA5 Nero vom Hirschel, VA8 Esko von der Wienerau, V8 Dax vom Haus Lach. GHKL Females; VA1 Vanta von der Wienerau, VA6 Nathalie von der Wienerau, V16 Alin vom Huhnegrab, V27 Geautie du Beffroi Artisien, V41 Odessa von der Wolfsmatte. JHKL Males; SG10 Zamb vom Fiemereck, SG16 Nickor vom Haus Licher. JHKL Females; SG4 Oduscha von der Wienerau.1995, in Hamburg, saw Zamb present his sixth progeny group. Again Hermann Martin was highly complimentary of the overall quality and stated that “83% in the Open Classes was striking”. GHKL Males; VA7 Esko von der Wienerau, V16 Gabin du Beffroi Artisien. GHKL Females; VA1 Nathalie von der Wienerau, VA8 Oscha von der Wienerau, V9 Geautie du Beffroi Artisien, V38 Brinka von Hasenborn. JKL Females; SG2 Fendi della Valcuvia.

1996, in Hamburg, saw Zamb present his seventh and final progeny group. Understandably, because of his age, numerically the group was small. Hermann Martin stated “that because of his ability to produce 7 progeny groups his great breeding value was underlined”. GHKL Males; VA5 Esko von der Wienerau, V7 Ingo vom Horand. GHKL Females; V24 Brinka vom Hasenborn.

As we went in to great detail with the progeny and grand-progeny of Fanto vom Hirschel for the purposes of fairness we will do the same for all the candidates.

Tony von der Wienerau (V25/1992) although not regarded as a excellent specimen himself has proven to be a decent sire. He produced the Select female Nadia am Seeteich, V Kandie vom Bisschofsheim and V Mirka von Dironca. The Tony son Baik vom Domenica produced Rapi Jaguar, whom when mated to VA Neptun von Bad-Boll produced JHKL Sieger 2000 Rapi Supra.

VA Esko von der Wienerau, although the highest graded Zamb son, has not been a huge success as a producer. His daughter Feli vom Ochsentor when mated to Wasko d’Ulmental produced the 2002 Siegerin Karma vom Ochsentor.

Dax vom Haus Lach (V8/94) is the sire of Jaguar vom Monchberg. His son Kimbo vom Monchberg is the sire of Betty vom Huhnegrab (VA4/2001).

Lux de Valdovin (SG3/92) is the sire of Wong vom Ducati. The Wong daughter Joska vom Ducati when mated to Xandor von Tronje produced VA2 2002 Untox vom Ducati. The Lux daughter Danni vom Wildsteiger Land when mated to Rocko de Quevado produced Jutta von Batu. Jutta when bred to Sieger Yasko vom Farbenspiel produced Larus von Batu (VA9/2002).

Chico von der Lohner Heide produced Wobo vom Larchenhain (SG9/1993). Wobo in turn is the sire of Jango vom Furstenberg (VA2/1999). Jango has proven to be an excellent producer. His top son Esko vom Danischen Hof (VA3/2002) has repeatedly produced excellent progeny at the Sieger Show. Jango is also the sire of the good producing male Bar von der Ostfrieschen Thingstatte and Cindy vom Dreichenbuckel (VA4/2002). Wobo is also the sire of Hagadahl’s Arex (V3/99) who has proven to be a very good sire. His son Jago vom Danischen Hof is the sire of the excellent young male Indo von der Bilteiche (V6/2002).

Nero vom Hirschel (VA5/94) produced Odin vom Hirschel (VA4/98) who in turn has produced Bax von der Luisenstrasse (VA1/2003), the very beautiful Zala vom Fiemereck (V2/2001) and Urmel vom Arminius (SG2/1994).

Una della Valcuvia when mated to Select Max della Loggia dei Mercanti produced the very good producing male Dux della Valcuvia (VA6/2001) Dux is the sire of the VA7 2003 Quantum vom Arminius..

Iris vom Hirschel when mated to Sieger Lasso vom Neuen Berg produced Cindi vom Hirschel (VA2/2002).

Matty don der Wienerau has mainly had influence through his good producing daughters and grand-daughters. Nova von der Wienerau (SG4/1996) when mated to Sieger Ursus von Batu produced the good producing male Zycco vom Arminius (V33/2000). Zycco in turn is the sire of Repettion Amanda (VA6/2002). Matty is also the sire of Hilary vom Lechtal  (VA10/1999) and Noscha von der Wienerau (V6/1999).

Vimo von der Wienerau, brother of Double–Siegerin Vanta produced Hafran’s Cimon. Cimon when mated to Heilei’s Debbie produced Heilei’s Aline, the dam of Heilei’s True Love VA13/1999). Aline when mated to Sasko von der Noriswand produced Heilei’s Farina (VA6/2001). Farina is the dam of Winona vom Amur (SG11/2002), sired by the outstanding Esko vom Danischen Hof.

Alin vom Huhnegrab (V13/1994) when mated to Largo vom Breidenbacher Schloss produced Magit vom Huhnegrab VA8/1998). Magit when mated to Select Timo vom Berrekasten has produced Paolo vom Haus Dexel (V3/02).

Nathalie von der Wienerau (VA1/1995) mated to Sieger Lasso vom Neuen Berg produced the lovely Jade vom Blue Rose (VA4/1998). Jade in turn when mated to sieger Rikkor von Bad-Boll produced Onella vob Bad-boll (SG2/1999).

Vanta von der Wienerau when mated to Jello von der Wienerau produced Wanni von der Wienerau (VA4/1994). Wanni when mated to the very good producing Hobby Gletscherhhopf produced Qrick von der Wienerau. Qrick in turn is the sire of Oduscha von der Wienerau (VA4/2000).

Verena von Batu when mated to Hobby vom Glescherhhopt produced the outstanding sire Sieger Ursus von Batu, who has had such a great influence on the Breed to date, especially through his double sieger son Yasko vom Farbenspiel.

In terms of construction Zamb von der Wienerau is not considered to be a superb specimen but he was a good dog. Large, strong, very masculine with very good pigmentation. He was well angled in front, but lacked hindquarter angulation and croup, lengthy in the middle-piece and lacked foreleg. He was sufficiently firm and dry and a very energetic mover. Generally he did not transmit these faults to any great degree. He gave strength and substance allied to very good construction, type and strength of heads. Croups were a problem. The foregoing analysis of his progeny and grand-progeny right up to the modern era leave a very good impression of his worth as a producer. I believe he has had a very positive influence on our Breed.

Verdict: A Worthy Sieger.

1993 Sieger & VA1

Jeck vom Noricum Sch3.

(Odin v. Tanneneise-Anett vom Noricum)

Inbreeding:

4-4 Fina vom Badsee.

4-4 Nick von der Wienerau.

5-5 Kuno vom Weidtweg.

5-5 Wala von der Sturmwolke.

5,5-5 Flora vom Konigsbruch.

3-3 Palme vom Wildsteiger Land.

5-5 Canto von der Wienerau.

5-5 Dick vom Adeloga.

5-5 Veit vom Haus Koder.

Undoubtedly one of the most controversial Siegers of the recent past has been Jeck vom Noricum. SG59 in 1988 in the JKL Class judged by Erwin Wieser when he was criticised for a lack of firmness, soft ears and poor performance and movement. In the Open Class in 1989 he made a hugely controversial jump into the Select Group at VA9 under Hermann Martin much to the displeasure of the spectators who were totally unappreciative of his performance in the walking and gaiting examination. He was upgraded to VA8 in 1990, but not shown in 1991, because his owner was judging, but his first progeny group seemed to somewhat justify the President’s faith in him..JHKL Males: SG7 Xanto von Grauen. JHKL Females: SG31 Unda von der Holledau. JKL Males; SG1 Visum vom Arminius, SG2 Apoll vom Laacher-Haus. SG6 Zito von der Noriswand, SG8 Karo vom Adelplatz. JKL Females: SG4 Vilky von der Holledau, SG8 Virina von der Holledau.

1992, in Dusseldorf, saw Jeck promoted to Vize-Sieger and based purely on his progeny placings I felt it was well deserved. He had the second best group after Zamb von der Wienerau. GHKL Males: V9 Apoll vom Laacher-Haus, V17 Zito von der Noriswand, V20 Xanto vom Grauen, V58 Quanto vom Haus Ziegelmayer, V68 Iso vom Kirschental. GHKL Females: V1 Lona von der Hohen Erle, V13 Unka von der Holledau, V22 Inka vom Kirchental, V29 Virina von der Holledau, V42 Ussa von der Wienerau. JHKL Males. SG1 Ero von Batu. JKL Males: SG7 Lars vom Fiemereck. JKL Females: SG21 Lera vom Fiemereck.

1993, in Dortmund, saw Jeck deservedly achieve the Sieger title with the best Progeny Group presented (68). GHKL Males: V2 Apoll vom Laacher-Haus, V5 Xanto vom Grauen. GHKL Females: Inga vom Kirchental, V12 Lona von der Hohen Erle. JHKL Males: SG5 Wilko vom Kirschental, SG14 Jonny vom Aurelius. JKL Males: SG15 Yack vom Fidelius, SG16 Bedwins Xorro. JKL Females: SG15 Centa vom Schaferhof, SG24 Yola vom Fidelius. His son Visum vom Arminius produced SG1, 3, 5, and 18 in this class.

In Bremen, in 1994, although retired from the Breed ring Jeck produced another large, quality Progeny Group (38) with a large proportion in the GHKL classes. It should also be remembered that his sons Visum, Xanto, Apoll and Zito all produced groups this year. Hermann Martin stated that this was a clear indication of the importance of Jeck as a producer and his total acceptance by the breeders. GHKL Males: VA4 Visum vom Arminius, V3 Apoll vom Laacher-Haus, V13 Ero von Batu, V19 Karo vom Tweelerland, V33 Bedwins Xorro, V48 Tommi von Batu. GHKL Females: V23 Unka von der Holledau, V29 Leska vom Haus Rupp, V32 Diwa vom Overledingerland, V34 Waile vom Kirschental, V40 Linda vom Wildsteiger Land, V51 Yola vom Fidelius. JHKL Males: SG3 Xino von der Hohen Erle, SG8 Hobby vom Gletscherttopf, SG23 Ober vom Noricum. JKL Females: SG32 Leika vom Haus Bork, SG8 Renee della Cerza.

In Hamburg, in 1995, Peter Messler commented that although Jeck now had several sons producing well, the breeders were still interested in using him as a breeding partner. 9 sons produced Progeny groups that year. GHKL Males: VA2 Visum vom Arminius, VA10 Apoll vom Laacher-Haus, V3 Yassko von der Roten Matter, V27 Wilko vom Kirschental. GHKL Females V21 Leska vom Haus Rupp. JHKL Males: SG1 Lord vom Georg Victor Thurm, SG23 Harko von der Janhohe. JKL Males: SG18 Utz vom Wildacker.

Karlsruhe, in 1996, saw Jeck produce his sixth and smallest group to date (15). This is usual as a dog advances in years. 6 sons and 4 grandsons presented Progeny groups. GHKL Males: VA1  Visum vom Arminius, V11 Lord vom Georg Victor Turm, V41 Hobby vom Gletscherttopf. GHKL Females: V30 Hera vom Laacher-Haus, V39 Mona vom Wendelsheim.

1997, in Dusseldorf, saw Jeck produce his 7th group with an improvement on the previous year (18). Peter Messler commented “The high breeding value of this dog is emphasised by the fact that for the seventh time a superb group was presented and already numerous of his progeny have proven to be markedly good producers”. GHKL Males: V2 Yasko von der Roten Matter, V3 Lord vom Georg Victor Turm. JKL Males: Maik del Gobbo. JKL Females: SG19 Katrin vom Winnloh.

Jeck produced his his 8th and final group in 1998 in Nurmberg. Despite his age he led his group to great applause from the spectators. 3 sons and 6 grandsons produced progeny groups. Truly a remarkable achievement. GHKL Males: V2 Lord vom Georg Victor Turm, V8 Yassko von der Rotten Matter. GHKL Females: V4 Kathrin vom Winnloh, V23 Leika vom Haus Bork. JHKL Males: SG6 Flex vom Tronje. JKL Females: SG32 Quendy di Casa Mary.

Whilst Jeck only produced 2 VA animals in a long and productive stud career, it should be remembered that he also produced a huge amount of high quality “V” progeny, both males and females. The importance of a dog as a producer is not the amount of select progeny he produces, but the longetivity of his breeding career, and the ability of his progeny to continue the bloodline successfully. Without a doubt Jeck vom Noricum fulfilled this criteria comfortably. Generally he gave big animals, good strength and substance, good heads, very good type and construction, very good proportions and good pigment. The problems generally attributed to him are, loose ligaments, loose hocks soft ears and a lack of desire in movement. Today his influence is immense. He is very well represented in modern bloodlines through Neptun vom Bad-Boll (Yassko von der Roten Matter), Orbit von Tronje/Rapi Supra (Neptun von Bad-Boll), Ando vom Altenberger Land (Cary vom Fiemereck/Visum vom Arminius), Quantum vom Arminius (Dux della Valcuvia/Max della Loggia dei Mercanti/Visum vom Arminius), Ursus von Batu (Hobby vom Gletschertopf), Zycco vom Arminius (Ursus von Batu), Yasko vom Farbenspiel (Ursus von Batu), Ghandhi von Arlett (Ursus von Batu), Domino vom Baronenwald (Hobby vom Gletschertopf), Sasko di Casa Mary/Fritz vom Farbenspiel Solo von Frutteto (Ursus von Batu), Erasmus van Noort/Larus von Batu/Quentin Karenberg (Yasko vom Farbenspiel), Wallace aus Agrigento (Scott v. Deodatus/Gustl vom Wildsteiger Land).

Because of time and space I have only selected a few of his daughters to further strengthen his position.

Lolli vom Fienmereck when mated to the very good producing Vax v. d. Dolomiten produced Sally vom Bergmannshof. Sally mated to Qrick von de Wieneau produced the beautiful VA4 2000 female Oduscha von der Wienerau. Oduscha mated to Sieger Bax von der Luisenstrasse produced the excellent young male Stenley vom Lehnhof 9SG4 20002).

Leika vom Hasu Bork, a daughter of VA female Orna von der Steinhagerquele (Uran), when mated to VA Karly vom Arminius, produced the 1999 Siegerin Saskia vom Arminius.

Linda vom Wildsteiger Land, when mated to Cash vom Wildsteiger Land produced the beautiful Holly vom Fichtenschlag (VA2 1998). Holly when mated to Pascha von der Jahnhohe produced Larissa von der Fichtenschlag (VA8 2003).

Jutta von der Wasserad, when mated to VA Karly vom Arminius produced Yanke vom Wildsteiger Land (VA9 2000). Yanke when mated to Nils wom Wildsteiger Land produced Nanda vom Wildsteiger Land (VA8 2002).

Because of the foregoing analysis I believe Jeck has indelibly left his mark on the Breed through his sons and grandsons, and indeed through his good producing daughters and grand-daughters.

Verdict: A Worthy Sieger.

1994 Sieger & VA1

Kimon v. Dan Alhedy’s Hoeve SchH3

(Mark vom Haus Beck-Candy v. Dan Alhedy’s Hoeve)

Inbreeding:

4-5 Fina vom Badsee.

4-5 Nick von der wienerau.

5-5 Flora vom Konigsbruch.

3-4 Palme vom Wildsteiger Land.

If ever a dog was to be selected as Sieger based purely on his anatomical qualities, Kimon would be a very obvious choice. he was medium size, substantial, strongly masculine, firm and dry, with excellent angulations amd an exemplary overline, allied to very good pigmentation. Whilst he was a good mover, did not enjoy gaiting, certainly not in the large ring at the Sieger Show. He was not typical of his sire, Mark vom Haus Beck, but owed much to his maternal grand mother Hasel v. Tannenmeise, Odin v. Tannenmeise's mother.

JHKL Sieger in 1991, he was elevated straight in to the Select Group in 1992. Much was expected of him.

In Dortmund in 1993 he achieved VA4 with his first progeny group, all of whom were from the young classes. JKL Males; SG1 Karly vom Arminius, SG5 Quai von der Steigermuhle, SG26 Bob vom Lachnehof. JKL Females; SG2 Kelly vom Arminius, SG8 Urmel vom Bierstadter Hof, SG22 Bora vom Lachnerhof.

1994, in Bremen, saw Kimon achieve the Sieger title under Hermann Martin with an excellent critique and glowing comments on his progeny group (36). GHKL Males V7 Karly vom arminius. GHKL Females; VA2 Kelly vom Arminius. JHKL Males; SG12 Vitus vom Streek. JHKL Females; SG18 Quinta von der Kahle Heide. JKL Males; SG27 Nick vom Tweelerland, SG30 Hanko aus Agrigento, SG36 Zasko vom Wildsteiger Land. JKL Females; SG29 Larissa aus Agrigento. Whilst Kimon had some highly placed individuals in the group, there was a noticeable fall-off in terms of quality.

1995, in Bremen, saw Kimon present his third progeny group. Although Peter Messler was complimentary of the group, I thought that numerically it was too small (25), and furthermore the fall-off in quality was more evident.GHKL Males VA8 Karly vom Arminius, V44 Andy v. d. Dolomiten, V57 Vitus vom Streek, V65 Quai von der Steigermuhle. GHKL Females; V16 Zima vom Wildsteiger Land, V65 Hicki aus agrigento. JKKL Males; SG10 Kally v. Dan Alhedy's Hoeve. JHKL Females; SG4 Nina von Tronje. JKL Females; SG20 Nadia vom Turntal.

Kimon's fourth group was presented in 1996, in Karlsruhe, with less than complimentary comments from Peter Messler. He stated that the group contained "only a few outstanding individuals". Again I though that numerically the group was too small (18). GHKL Males; VA4 Karly vom Arminius, V19 Sammo vom Fienereck, V40 Kally v. Dan Alhedy's Hoeve. JHKL Males; SG22 Dino von der Urbecke. JKL Males; SG10 Amaro vom Haus Pari. JKL Females; SG6 Adria von der Ulpa.

1997, in Dusseldorf, saw Kimon present his fifth and final progeny group. Only 14 offspring were presented. GHKL Males; VA2 Karly vom Arminius, V12 Sammo vom Fiemereck. GHKL Females; V16 Hefa ays Agrigento, V24 Eibe vom Susannenhein.

Kimon's only noteworthy son is Karly vom Arminius. Karly in turn has produced the Select male Jello vom Michelstadter Rathaus, who to date has not been an outstanding producer. I believe that Kimon will only be represented in future generations through Karly vom Arminius' outstanding daughters. It should also be mentioned that Karly bears absolutely no resemblance to Kimon, taking his type, construction and pigmentation from his outstanding producing mother Marit vom Wildsteiger Land, an Uran daughter.

Kimon did not produce anything of his own obvious quality. Reports from Germany were that he was producing a high percentage of nervous puppies. Certainly his own character was poor, and as a result of this many breeders would not have used him. While Kimon did produce some excellent young animals, generally they did not seem to mature into Open Class quality. A common enough problem.

As I have already said, the only major influence from Kimon as a sire line is through Karly vom Arminius. The Karly son Jello vom Michelstadter Rathaus is the sire of Umelli von der Noriswand (SG8 2000), and the Beautiful Enschi von der Piste Trophe (VA3 2001). Karly is alos the sire of "V" Yoker vom Lechtal, who in turn has sired the V11 male Til vom Lechtal. Til is the sire of Neni aus Agrigento (SG2 2000), and Nasa v. Hochmoor (VA7 2002). The only significant influence from Kimon's daughters is through:

Kelly vom Arminius when mated to Rikkor von Bad-Boll produced Valium/Volvoro vom Arminius who have proven to sires of good females.

Nina vom Tronje when mated to Natz vom Steigerhof produced Baru vom Haus Yu who has not had much influence through his sons.

Verdict: Not A Worthy Sieger.
